Payment
-
Lessons are billed monthly in advance on the 1st of each month.
-
Accepted methods: e-transfer (preferred), cash, or cheque.
-
Invoices are sent by email prior to payment.
-
Monthly tuition reserves the student’s weekly lesson time slot and covers teaching time, planning, communication, travel, and administrative work, regardless of attendance.
-
Overdue or unpaid invoices may result in a hold on lessons and loss of the reserved time slot.
-
Music books, learning materials, studio recitals, competition registration, and external exam fees are not included in monthly tuition.
Make-up & Cancellation
-
No-shows (student not present at the scheduled lesson without prior notice) are charged in full and are not eligible for a make-up lesson.
-
Lessons cancelled by the student with less than 24 hours’ notice are charged in full and are not eligible for a make-up lesson, except in cases of illness or emergency. This includes absences due to school exams, academic commmitments, and external activities.
-
Student absences with advance notice are still charged as part of reserved tuition; however, they are eligible for a make-up lesson, subject to availability. If the student is unable to attend the available times, the lesson remains charged and no make-up will be provided.
-
Teacher absences will be rescheduled at a mutually agreed time. If a reschedule is not possible, the lesson will not be charged as part of monthly tuition.
-
Lessons will be rescheduled in cases of severe weather or unsafe travel conditions.
Lateness
-
Lessons will end at the scheduled time if a student arrives late or is unready at the start of the lesson, in order to respect subsequent students and travel schedules.
-
As lessons are taught in-home, occasional minor delays due to travel between locations may occur. If I am running behind, the lesson time will be adjusted or made-up when possible.
Learning Materials
-
Students must have access to a piano or keyboard at home.
-
Students are required to have any additional instruments required for their program (if applicable).
-
Students must have a notebook, pencil, eraser, and binder for lesson notes and sheet organization.
-
Students are responsible for purchasing music books and materials recommended throughout the year.
Studio Recitals
-
Studio recitals are performance opportunities for students to share and celebrate progress with family and peers.
-
Once the studio has enough students, recitals will typically take place in December and June.
-
Participation is optional but highly encouraged.
-
A separate recital fee of $20 per student applies to help cover venue and event costs.
-
High-quality video and audio recordings of each student’s performance will be provided.
-
Full details will be shared well in advance.
Holidays & Summer Scheduling
-
My studio runs year-round. Statutory holidays and scheduled breaks such as Winter Break and March Break are not included in monthly tuition.
-
During July and August, scheduling is more flexible and based on mutual availability. With advance notice, lessons missed due to family vacations during these months will not be charged.
Withdrawal
-
A minimum of 1 month’s notice is required when withdrawing from lessons to ensure all payments and scheduling are up to date.
-
This allows time to complete ongoing learning goals and transition materials appropriately.
Discontinuation
-
On rare occasions, lessons may be discontinued if studio policies are not respected, travel becomes unmanageable, or I determine we are not a suitable fit.
-
In such cases, a minimum of 1 month’s notice will be provided and any remaining paid lessons will be taught.
Expectations
• Practice – Consistent practice between lessons is essential for progress. Lesson time is used to introduce new concepts, develop technique, and guide musical growth, but improvement happens through daily practice at home. Practice expectations vary by age and level and will be discussed individually with each student and their parent. As a general guideline, beginners are encouraged to practice 15–30 minutes daily, intermediate students 30–60 minutes daily, and advanced students 60 minutes or more, depending on workload and goals. Focus and efficiency in practice are more important than total time spent.
• Parental Support – For students under 8, parental support is crucial in establishing consistent practice routines and reviewing weekly assignments when needed.
• Parent/Guardian Presence – For students under 13, a parent or guardian should remain in the home during the lesson.
• Lesson Environment – Students should have access to a quiet, safe, and suitable space with a piano or keyboard to ensure focus and effective learning.
• Preparedness – Students should be ready at the scheduled lesson start time with materials organized and ready to learn.
• Illness – If a student is experiencing fever, flu-like symptoms, or a contagious illness, please notify me as soon as possible so the lesson can be rescheduled.
• Respect & Kindness – Lessons are a positive and supportive learning environment. Students, parents, and teachers are expected to treat one another with respect and kindness.
• Engagement & Enjoyment – Students are encouraged to approach lessons with curiosity, positivity, and openness. Most importantly, music-making should remain an enjoyable and rewarding experience!
